"Salute to Service with a Pledge to Prepare"
As a registered guest of this year's BASH, you are invited to participate in our four-week Boot Camp Challenge. Once a week, we’ll announce a different safety drill to help you and your family prepare for emergencies.
Week 3: Wildfire Preparedness
Wildfires often begin unnoticed and they spread quickly, igniting brush, trees, and homes. In a wildfire, every second counts! This weekend, we challenge you to create a Family Disaster Plan in just 3 simple steps:
Read about wildfire safety and learn how to keep your family and home safe.
Practice as many elements of your plan so your family will know what to do in a moment’s notice.
SHARE THE LOVE
Post a picture of you and your household creating your Family Disaster Plan on social media and include #BASHBCCand #PrepareCalGC for a chance to win a prize from the CA Gold Country Region of the American Red Cross.
Winners and prizes will be announced during our virtual event on May 22nd!
What To Do if a Fire Starts
Click here to learn what you should do if a fire starts or spreads to your home.
If your clothes catch on fire:
Stop what you’re doing.
Drop to the ground and cover your face if you can.
Roll over and over or back and forth until the flames go out. Running will only make the fire burn faster.
THEN: Once the flames are out, cool the burned skin with water for three to five minutes. Call for medical attention.
Protecting yourself at home is only the first step. Does your workplace or organization have an emergency plan? How prepared would you be if your business suddenly were to be hit by a natural disaster? The first step in preparing for the unexpected is to assess your risk. The American Red Cross offers a free service through its Ready Rating program.
