Shelter to provide for immediate needs of displaced residents
SAN DIEGO – October 25, 2019 — As several Valley Center residents remain displaced due to Miller Fire evacuation orders, American Red Cross disaster workers are working to open a shelter at the Valley Center Middle School (28102 N. Lake Wohlford Road, Valley Center, CA 92082). The shelter is anticipated to be open by 9:00 p.m.
The shelter will provide for the immediate needs of those affected by these evacuation orders. Services include a safe and clean place to stay, food, hydration, comfort kits with personal hygiene items, emotional support and health services.
People are welcome to bring their pets with them, thanks to the San Diego Humane Society who will operate an adjacent pet shelter, if needed.
The local Red Cross is dedicated to assisting those affected by disasters. We are working closely with local emergency management and our partners to coordinate relief efforts. Trained Red Cross volunteers and staff are on call round-the-clock and ready to assist in various aspects including sheltering, feeding, disaster assessment, casework, and more. The American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties responds to about one disaster every 24 hours.
