Liz Shafer joined the American Red Cross in April of 2016, as an Anne Arundel County Disaster Responder, responding to home fires and other local disasters and assisting dozens upon dozens of clients. She has continued to increase her responsibilities with Southern Maryland as a Disaster Team Lead, in which she manages and mentors other volunteer Disaster Responders. She also added the title of Duty Officer to her plate, in which she is responsible for receiving the initial call from community Fire Departments to gather volunteers to respond. She provides support, training, and mentorship for other Chapter Duty Officers and frequently responds to disasters herself.
During her time with Red Cross, she has logged approximately 4000 hours of service! She has taken advantage of the numerous offerings of training as well as participated in the recent FEMA Region III Staging class to strengthen her skills to be prepared should a large-scale emergency take place in our area. Liz has gone above and beyond with her commitment to Red Cross and her community, and we thank her for her dedication and service to so many. Thank you, Liz, for all you do!
