The Greater Chesapeake Region of the American Red Cross is pleased to recognize Melody Ravert, of Essex, MD, as its November 2018 Volunteer of the Month.
Melody joined the American Red Cross as a volunteer in May 2016 after being recruited by her husband Kevin Miles, who is also a Red Cross volunteer. She is part of the recovery casework team and has assisted hundreds of families, gently and patiently guiding them as they recover from devastating disasters.
“Melody is compassionate, resourceful, and very reliable,” said Yolanda Williams, Greater Chesapeake Red Cross’ regional recovery services manager. “She is consistent, accurate in her work and we can count on her. Her commitment to the mission of the Red Cross and the families we serve is invaluable.”
As a member of the Central Maryland Red Cross Disaster Action Team, Ravert commits about 25 hours per month to serving and responding to the immediate needs of families in the eastern Baltimore County area when needed. She supports Miles in his work as a duty officer, which sometimes means being awakened in the wee hours of the morning to answer a call or respond to a fire.
She also works as a recruitment volunteer, representing the Red Cross at community events and fairs.
Regardless of your skillset, the American Red Cross can use your expertise and is always in need of volunteers. To learn how you can serve your community as a Red Cross volunteer go to https://rdcrss.org/2Rgm6xq.
