Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs lifesaving blood. Whether it is a mother giving birth, a child fighting cancer, individuals battling sickle cell disease, an accident victim, or a surgical patient, the need for blood is critical, and there is simply no substitute.
The American Red Cross is privileged to help meet this constant demand by providing about 40% of the country’s blood supply—more than any other collection agency in the U.S. And we are proud to serve as an essential partner to thousands of hospitals, transfusion and cancer treatment centers across the country, including more than 100 right here in Minnesota.
As a significant investment not only to the Saint Paul community, but also to our blood donors and patients relying on our blood products, the Red Cross has begun a major $2 million renovation in the current Blood Services facility with a new Blood Donation Center. This extensive renovation project will not only improve efficiencies and contribute to significant advancement in the blood collection process, it will also reduce the current footprint by consolidating two buildings into one, better utilizing resources and donor dollars.
“Throughout our lives, many of us will have a loved one who will need blood. It is our moral imperative to ensure that safe and reliable blood and blood products are always available to those that need it when needed.” Phil Hansen, Regional Executive Director American Red Cross Minnesota and Dakotas
