The American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania Region has partnered with Knouse Foods to send thousands of applesauce packets to soldiers stationed overseas.
Through the American Red Cross ‘Operation Stronger Together’ initiative, the Red Cross provides care packages to military bases around the world; creating a bridge between the generosity of America’s civilian and business communities, to troops deployed across the globe.
In early March 2019, Knouse Foods approached the Red Cross with a donation of more than one hundred cases of resealable applesauce pouches. Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania Service to Armed Forces Regional Program Manager, Jonathan Glenn, took the lead, organizing volunteers to pick up the donation at the Knouse distribution center, package, and ship to military bases in Iraq, Kuwait, Djibouti, and Romania.
On March 29, the final shipments arrived at their intended destinations where distribution began immediately to service members on each military base. Most recently, the applesauce packets were given to soldiers carrying out training and working in motor pools in Kuwait. These were given with other snack foods in coordination with deployed Red Cross staff who operate Red Cross offices within each active military base.
“The applesauce was a welcome donation to receive,” noted Jonathan Glenn. “We can’t thank Knouse Foods enough, as their generosity provided a morale booster and a well-deserved and unexpected treat for these service members. We are incredibly grateful that our Service to the Armed Forces programming could facilitate this delivery.”
The Red Cross Service to Armed Forces program operates staffed offices on 38 U.S. military bases across 11 countries, including 6 deployment sites.
