Measles & Rubella Partnership

What is the Vaccinate a Village Competition?

Join us for the National Youth Council (NYC) Vaccinate a Village (VaV) Competition throughout April 24 – May 31, 2023! During this competition, compete with youth and young adult volunteers across the country for a chance at winning a swag package and social media shoutouts, courtesy of the American Red Cross. There will be 3 winners selected in each category: High School Red Cross Club, College/University Red Cross Club, and individual based on creativity and the total amount of funds raised.

Why participate in the Vaccinate a Village Competition?

World Immunization Week (April 24 – 30, 2023), “celebrated in the last week of April, aims to highlight the collective action needed and to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease” (World Health Organization).

Approximately 351 children die from measles-related complications each day, or 14 deaths every hour. Rubella can have serious consequences for pregnant women and their children. For $1, a child in a low-income country can be vaccinated against measles. For $2, a child can be protected against both measles and rubella.
