CEUs

The American Red Cross provides Continuing Education Units (CEUs) at no cost for certain classes taken by individuals who have requirements to maintain a professional license or certification.

The American Red Cross is an approved as an Accredited Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).

Courses eligible for CEUs will have the CEUs awarded and contact hours printed on the lower, left hand corner of the 8½ X 11” digital certificate. Digital certificates may be accessed at www.redcross.org/take-a-class/digital-certificate.

Course participants should consult with their respective licensing/accrediting agencies to make sure IACET CEUs meet their continuing education requirements.

Please note:
  • Challenge courses are not eligible for CEUs.
  • A course is not eligible for CEUs if “0” CEUs awarded and “0” contact hours appear on a digital certificate.
  • The IACET standard is that 10 contact hours equals 1 CEU. For example, the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course is 4.5 contact hours or 0.5 CEUs. However, some licensing/accreditation organizations may have a standard that 1 contact hour equals 1 CEU. Customers should check with their licensing/accreditation organizations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful I am glad I bought the First Aid / CPR / AED book before the course so I could follow it during the course and refer to it now. It seemed the instructor was pinch hitting, she hadn't worked in this facility before, and although she knew how to do everything she covered, she read a lot from her script. I liked the participation / hands on parts the most.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from My How Things Have Changed I initially took this course in 1982. Back then, it was a more comprehensive first-aid course with an instructional book. Help was not a mere cellphone call away. In fact, you may have been the only help. I think the course should revert back to being more comprehensive. For example, some of the students in my class were preparing to take an extended hiking journey through the wilderness this summer. In this case, further assistance is dependent on cell reception and a charged cellphone, but the lack thereof could spell complete disaster for an injured person. Teaching first-aid survival skills in this environment are crucial to arriving home after the journey. The course was different from what I have experienced all the years I have kept up with my first-aid training for work purposes. I am use to taking patient care to a higher level than this course allowed through its instruction. I always seek the "What if no other help comes scenario?" What would I do then? Am I trained to handle the situation? This course could provide more training to alleviate those anxieties. At one point in my life, I was actually a Red Cross instructor of the old First-aid/CPR curriculum. Things have certainly changed since then and maybe not for the better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Course The instructor was very knowledgeable, and the course was interesting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Is the training actually effective? The teaching methods created by Red Cross in this class seem to be very ineffective for anyone actually responding in an emergency. The chances of remembering the correct # and sequence seems unlikely. The grammar in the course material is poor and presentation is outdaded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Training The class was on point, simple and to the point. Recommend it.
