The American Red Cross of Santa Monica Bay serves over 340,000 individuals in the communities of Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Mar Visata, Marina del Rey, Playa Vista, Westchester, Playa del Rey, El Sugundo, Manhattan Beach.
The Chapter was chartered on February 24, 1917 in the city of Santa Monica, with tremendous help and support from the Santa Monica Bay Women's Club.
Julie Thomas began her non-profit career in 1978 and has worked for three national non-profit organizations: the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. Julie has been the Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Santa Monica Bay since October, 2012.
Julie served as Board Chair of two different California workplace giving organizations – the National Voluntary Health Association (NVHA) and Community Health Charities (CHC). She led the NVHA board through its merger with CHC in California – a year before the organizations merged at the national level. Born in Detroit, Julie attended Wayne State University, received her degree in Communications and English Literature. She is an avid reader, movie goer and loves to travel. Julie lives with her husband Richard Thomas in the Westwood neighbor of Los Angeles, California.
