Operation Coupon

Those expired coupons may not be any good to you, but they could help ease the financial burden for military families and armed forces overseas! Local Red Cross chapters in Colorado are collecting and mailing coupons to U.S. troops overseas as part of “Operation Coupon,” a program that saves members of the military money by letting them redeem expired coupons at commissaries on bases overseas.

Commissaries at U.S. bases abroad will accept manufacturers coupons up to six months past their expiration. The Red Cross is collecting, sorting and mailing coupons to participating bases in places like Japan, Germany, Italy and even Iceland.

There are some rules to follow:

  • Coupons must be from the manufacturer, and can not be for a specific retail store or printed off the Internet
  • Please sort your coupons into food vs. non-food categories
  • Coupons must be less than six months past their expiration date.
You can mail the coupons to:

You can also drop off coupons at your local Red Cross office.
