The Red Cross has launched an effort to reduce deaths and injuries due to home fires. You may qualify for a visit from Red Cross volunteers at your home to check and install smoke alarms, replace alarm batteries, and help you make a plan to improve your household safety in the face of home fires.
To ensure the most effective use of resources, requests will be evaluated on a variety of factors. Priority will be given to residents in zip codes identified as having the highest risk for fire casualties and injuries and to households that do not have working smoke alarms.
The Red Cross and its partners will install a limited number of free smoke alarms for those who cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms or for those who are physically unable to install a smoke alarm. The Red Cross also installs a limited number of specialized bedside alarms for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Depending on your location and other factors we may forward your request to one of our partner organizations.
The American Red Cross Central Florida Region installs smoke alarms in Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, DeSoto, Flagler, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lake, Manatee, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia Counties.
