Alfred Sanchez leads a team of over 3,000 volunteers and staff as they support nearly 8 million residents across the region’s 13 counties to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and man-made disasters.
Sanchez has deep roots in the South Florida area and with the Red Cross, bringing with him a local perspective that has allowed him to hit the ground running. He began his Red Cross journey in the 1990s when he served at the helm of the organization from 1995 to 1998. In 2014, Sanchez enthusiastically rejoined the South Florida Region Red Cross to lead the organization as Executive Director for Greater Miami and the Keys; a position he will continue to play alongside his new duties as Regional Chief Executive Officer.
Prior to his reunion with the Red Cross, he led the YMCA of Greater Miami as President and Chief Executive Officer for 12 years. Sanchez began his career, serving as Director of Government & Community Relations for Royal Caribbean Cruises & Celebrity Cruises. In this role, he was responsible for the charitable programs and carrying out the company’s vision for enhancing the wellbeing of the communities throughout 160 international ports of call.
Trained as a master in community and clinical psychology at the University of Maryland, Alfred Sanchez received his BA in Psychology and English from Beaver College in Pennsylvania.
