As a community leader in emergency preparedness, prevention and response, the American Red Cross honors individuals and organizations whose extraordinary acts of courage and kindness make them real heroes. In the past decade, awards have been presented to children, adults, organizations, and civic groups.
An American Red Cross Hometown Hero is an individual who exhibits collaborative, creative or extraordinary heroism promoting or benefitting our community. They courageously and selflessly respond to an unusual, significant, or unexpected crisis and/or create lasting change in the lives of others. There is a special award, the Paving the Way Youth Award, presented to an individual under 18 years of age who selflessly responds to a crisis situation and/or does extraordinary work toward making a difference in the world.
