“I was just really numb and this person came… and I felt taken care of. They helped me, walked me through certain things, because when it happens, it’s so overwhelming you don’t even know where to start.” – Maui house fire victim
When disaster strikes, the Red Cross provides not only food, clothing, and shelter, but crisis counseling for those who have lost a loved one or everything they owned. We are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and respond to disasters in Hawaii every 4 days.
Since 1917, the people of Hawaii have depended on us to respond not only to every day fires and floods, but major natural and man-made disasters, including the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hilo tsunami, hurricanes, earthquakes, Sacred Falls landslide, and Kaloko dam burst. We continually recruit, train and mobilize out volunteers to help those in need.
