The American Red Cross has been providing services to U.S. Armed Forces in Kentucky and Indiana since 1917. In 1996 the Louisville Area Chapter opened an Emergency Call Center to provide communications between members of the military and their families during times of emergency such as a death in the family or the birth of a child.
The Louisville Area Chapter Emergency Call Center is now one of four Emergency Communications Call Center sites in the world; the other three centers are located in Fort Sill, OK; San Diego, CA and Springfield, MA.
When an emergency occurs, family members contact a Red Cross call center using one universal number. A member of the call center team will answer at any of the four sites. The Red Cross then relays the message to the appropriate channels for approval.
