February 2017 - Jerome Brewer

Volunteer of the month Jerome Brewer

Jerome Brewer began his volunteerism with the American Red Cross in 2015, learning about our mission and needs through a partner agency, Department of Aging. Since joining the team, Jerome has proven himself essential in helping to deliver our mission to our disaster services clients, as well as assisting all volunteer and paid staff by assisting in the Operations Department. He generously donates upwards of 20 hours per month to help in a variety of ways. Jerome works tirelessly in the “Disaster Logistics” Department to ensure the entire team has the resources needed to do their jobs and serve our clients. He also assists our Sheltering Lead in assessing different sites to be used as shelters for clients in the event of a disaster. In addition, he works in our Operations Department to safeguard and maintain our fleet of vehicles.

Jerome has been a key player in our Home Fire Campaigns, particularly in Central Maryland Chapter. This campaign aims at reducing the number of fire-related deaths by installing working 10-year smoke alarms in community homes. Jerome has assisted with both the planning and implementation phases of multiple Home Fire Campaign events.

In August, Jerome was on-call to volunteer for the Ellicott City flooding disaster, and was always willing to go the extra mile to make sure first responders and clients were fed, hydrated, and had the tools needed to do their jobs.

Jerome is reliable, kind, humble, and hard-working. He goes beyond the call of duty, is a pleasure to be around, and is a true humanitarian. We thank you, Jerome, for all you do!
