Richard Gooding began his volunteer career with the Red Cross in 2015, and in a short time, has taken the lead roles in Disaster Action Team (DAT) Response, as well as Casework Management in the Delmarva Chapter. His dedication to helping others extends not only to the numerous clients he assists each week but to his fellow Red Cross volunteers as well. He has taken the initiative to train and mentor others in client casework management, resulting in several new volunteer casework managers. He also took the initiative to become an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) driver and has provided critical support to numerous disaster community events like the Ocean City Air Show, Salisbury Night Out, and the Accomack County Health Fair.
Richard is very active in the Home Fire Campaign, aimed at reducing fire-related injury and death by 25% across the country, participating in several campaigns in areas including Salisbury and Onley, VA. Over 100 smoke alarm installations were completed in large part because of Richard’s hard work.
In addition to disaster services, Richard has provided support for numerous Service to Armed Forces (SAF) events throughout Delmarva and taken the initiative to cross-train and become a casework volunteer for SAF.
He is always striving to learn more about the services that the Red Cross provides and wholeheartedly embodies the spirit of the organization. His dedication and contributions to the Red Cross are extraordinary. Thank you, Richard, for all you do!
