Women’s Role in the Military: A Walk Through History

Women’s Role in the Military
With Colonel Laura Lenderman
March 22, 2017

  • Bill Bradley, VP Consumer Affairs, Anheuser-Busch
  • Cindy Erickson, CEO Red Cross—Eastern Missouri
  • Veronica McDonnell, Red Cross—Eastern Missouri Region Centennial Chair

To meet Colonel Lenderman is to be impressed by this accomplished, knowledgeable and obviously kind woman. In her engaging presentation ranged from Deborah Sampson Gannett who had to disguise herself to serve in Revolutionary War to the accomplished women serving our nation today. This point was best made by the Colonel herself who confidently illustrates the value of women in the military today. She generously answered numerous questions after her talk. One of the points she mentioned was how important it is to be yourself, to be authentic in your dealings with others. This resonated deeply as she both spoke the words and demonstrated the art before us.

The event was closed by Jim McGrath, Chairman of the Board of Red Cross—Eastern Missouri Region and President, AAA Missouri.

Hosted grandly by Anheuser-Busch who supplied both their Biergarten for the event and one of their spectacular Clydesdales, Chief, as the official greeter.

Speed Mentoring and Networking

Speed Mentoring and Networking
March 1, 2017

  • Amy Schwetz, Peabody Energy
  • Sarah Wilson, Society of Women Leaders, Red Cross—Eastern Region
  • Elzandi Oosthuizen, Monsanto

The Society of Women Leaders held the first Speed Mentoring event at the generous Peabody Energy. Our impressive mentors were warm, open, smart and oh so qualified to discuss business, career and life with the mentees. In the course of 2 hours, multiple sessions were completed and connections forged. The event closed with our local Red Cross chapter CEO, Cindy Erickson arriving straight from the Perryville tornado damage to fill us all in on the Red Cross’ continuous work in helping all in need. As the new Red Cross motto says so well: Any time. Any place. Any one. Cindy lives those words.

Hosted wonderfully by Peabody Energy.
