Since our charter was signed in 1917, the Lowcountry South Carolina Chapter has served the people of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton, Jasper, Georgetown, and Williamsburg counties as part of the Palmetto South Carolina Region of the American Red Cross. Our services may reach the entire world. Our volunteers and staff members may be called to serve down the street, across the country or around the world.
The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on donations of time, money and blood to do its work. When you help with a gift of your time, your blood donation, or your financial gift, you join the Red Cross family.
The Red Cross works tirelessly to help those who need assistance, whether down the street, across the country or around the world. We are there to save the day when disaster strikes or when a neighbor’s house burns down. We are there when someone needs life-saving blood, or the comfort of a helping hand. We are the direct link of communication for military families with their loved ones in service during an emergency; we provide training in CPR, aquatics safety and first aid and spread humanitarian aid to people around the world.
We could not do our mission without our volunteers! They are the heart of the Red Cross and make up 96% of our workforce. Our 2,695 volunteers who donate their time and energy to selflessly serve those in need demonstrate the compassion and generosity for which Americans are known.
In FY2014, your American Red Cross Carolina Lowcountry Chapter provided 1,164 individuals with emergency services after a disaster. We also trained 17,599 people in life-saving skills such as CPR/AED, Aquatics and First Aid, provided 554 emergency communication services to members of the military and their families, and distributed 16,391 units of red blood cells to area hospitals.
