In times of emergency, we provide emergency communications that keep families connected to their loved ones including Active duty, Reserve, National Guard units and Veterans, as well as community-based military and their families. The verification in a message assists the service member’s commanding officer with making a decision regarding emergency leave.
These communications are delivered around-the-clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. SAF volunteers and staff work in nearly 568 chapters in the United States, on 74 military installations around the world and with our troops in Kuwait, and Afghanistan.
IF YOU NEED TO INITIATE AN EMERGENCY MESSAGE IMMEDIATELY, PLEASE CALL 1-877-272-7337.
When calling the Red Cross to initiate and emergency message for the Service member, it is helpful to have the following information:
- Military Members Name
- Branch of Service
- Social Security Number & Date of Birth
- Military Unit
Red Cross volunteers reach out to military members, veterans, and their families in the community, as well as at Offutt Air Force Base, The Erhling Bergquist Clinic, Eastern
Nebraska Veterans Home and the Veterans Administration Medical Center. With volunteers’ support, we participated in 75 special events last year including Families of the Deployed dinners, Yellow Ribbon support briefings, and Spring Spa for Spouses. You will also find Red Cross SAF volunteers making new friends over lunch at the Veterans Home and delivering fresh baked cookies and warm smiles to VA hospital patients all year long.
