Ways to Donate

Each year, the Red Cross responds to more than 900 disasters throughout the region, providing families with food, clothing, shelter and the financial resources to get back on their feet. Providing this kind of care is expensive, and the funding for these efforts comes almost exclusively from the generosity of donors. And every dollar counts. For instance:
  • $10 | Buys two smoke detectors, which are given to local needy families and installed by volunteers and firefighters.
  • $125 | Funds the performance of puppet shows “Fantastic Tales of Fire Safety” and “Sesame Street Puppet Shows,” which teach safety preparedness, to local elementary school students.
  • $150 | Provides a scholarship for a lower income youth to attend the Leadership Development Center, an annual camp to develop life skills and leadership qualities.
  • $200 | Purchases one smoke detector for the hearing impaired, which are often too expensive for many to afford.
  • $500 | Purchases 100 smoke alarms for a smoke alarm blitz in a local neighborhood.

In-Kind Gifts
We are unable to accept small, individual donations or collections of items such as clothing, food, or cleaning supplies. While the Red Cross cannot accept the donation of an individual item, you can support the Red Cross through the online sale of personal items. You can also support your community by donating these items to Matthew 25 Ministries.

Offers of sizeable, bulk donations are reviewed to determine if they meet a current need for disaster victims that can be addressed by the Red Cross. Bulk donations are typically new, shrink-wrapped and palletized items, and they are transported by the donor.

If you believe your organization can offer the Greater Cincinnati/Ohio River Valley Chapter appropriate in-kind support during a large-scale disaster, please contact us at 513-579-3000.

Workplace Giving
Many employers offer matching gift program, which can double or even triple your contribution. To find out if your company has such a program, contact your HR office. Every dollar helps the Red Cross provide vital lifesaving services and resources.

An increasing number of companies now make contributions in support of volunteerism when their employees volunteer a specified number of hours with an approved nonprofit organization. Contact your HR department for details.
