LAS VEGAS (April 27, 2024) — The American Red Cross has teamed up with Sport Clips to keep blood donors looking good and maybe off to the races.
Thanks to Sport Clips Haircuts, all who come to donate April 29-May 31 will get a coupon for a free haircut by email. Plus, those who come to give April 29-May 19 will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for two and VIP racing experience to the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Races at Darlington Raceway Labor Day weekend, including entry to the Sport Clips racetrack hospitality tent and a $1,000 gift card.
“By teaming up with Sport Clips and NASCAR, we're not only offering a unique incentive for donors but also raising awareness about the constant need for blood donations,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “We hope this initiative will inspire more Nevadans to help keep our national blood supply strong.”
Make an appointment today
The Red Cross of Southern Nevada urges residents to book a donation appointment by May 19 to secure their chance at the NASCAR VIP Experience sweepstakes. Appointments can be made using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Donate now. Help save lives.
The Red Cross is integral to the nation's blood supply, responsible for approximately 40% of all blood collected. To meet the needs of patients at over 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers, the Red Cross must collect 12,500 blood and 3,000 platelet donations daily. In Southern Nevada alone, over 15 hospitals rely on the Red Cross for their blood supply.
Although 62% of the U.S. population are eligible to donate, only about 3% actually do. “Yesterday's lives were saved because generous individuals donated blood, helping Red Cross supply hospitals with the lifesaving blood products they need,” Flanigan said. “Donate blood today and help ensure a stable blood supply.”
Trauma patients, transplant recipients and those undergoing cancer treatment rely on blood donors to keep lifesaving blood available. “The only way transfusable blood can be obtained is through donations,” said Dr. Walter Kelley, Medical Director for the Rocky Mountain Division of the American Red Cross. “We rely on the generosity of others to give blood so it’s available when needed.”
