“For a lot of our soldiers this is their first deployment. Any little semblance of home that we can give them makes it just that much more bearable. In these austere environments, those small comfort items are very life-giving.” - U.S. Military Chaplin Shaun Hembree.

We believe health begins with everyday choices. That’s why we seek to empower military communities at home and abroad with practical skills and tools they can use to navigate the unique challenges of service, build a community and thrive at every stage of life.
For U.S. military personnel and their families stationed abroad, we offer humanitarian support and a taste of home. An expeditionary workforce brings moments of respite and connection to unaccompanied service members deployed to remote and austere locations. A global network of Red Cross staff and volunteers deliver essential services including disaster preparedness, safety courses, blood drives and leadership opportunities for military dependents to grow, connect and serve their communities.
Red Cross supporters are the lifeblood of our mission. With as little as $10 a month, your gift to the nation’s longest running military support organization – the American Red Cross – ensures our service members, veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors are supported through every stage of their military journeys and know they have the support of the nation behind them.

The brave men and women who answer the call to serve are often stationed far from home, only to receive the devastating news of a family emergency back home. Unlike civilians, returning home isn’t as simple as booking a flight. Due to the nature of their duties, service members must rely on the American Red Cross, the only organization chartered by Congress to independently verify emergencies for military commands so they can begin the process of returning home.
Daniel deployed with the unit in the fall 2024 to Poland, setting up on Powidz, a forward operating base designed to provide security and combat presence on NATO’s eastern flank. Temporary sites like this often have minimal amenities and soldiers go without family. But where most see challenges, Daniel saw an opportunity: take advantage of Army benefits and pursue a master’s degree. It’s something he never would have imagined 11 years ago when he was driving trucks and working seasonally on grain elevators in the fields of Texas, struggling to find consistent work.
Through his work with the Red Cross, Will continues to embody the values of integrity, service and excellence that have guided him throughout his life. As Will reflects on his journey, he remains humble about his achievements and focused on the mission. It was never about accolades or money. “Nobody's doing these types of jobs for the pay,” he said.
“It’s because we have a heart for the people.”
By the age of 15, Maribel began volunteering independently. One day an American Red Cross table caught her eye at a cherry blossom festival in Camp Zama, Japan where her family was stationed. While speaking to the volunteers, she was impressed by the organization’s commitment to youth and how the Red Cross encourages youth to take on meaningful projects in their communities. Her leadership and dedication quickly became evident. She led a story time initiative through the garrison library for preschoolers. She organized movie nights for single soldiers. She started a Red Cross Club, even recruiting her siblings to join her.
