The American Red Cross Pillowcase Project is a preparedness education program for children in grades 3 – 5, which teaches students about personal and family preparedness, local hazards, and basic coping skills.
Disney is the current sponsor of the program.
Now in its second year in Georgia, the Pillowcase Project is thriving in local communities and trained instructors expect they will reach nearly 18,000 students by year-end 2015. Presentations are typically 60-minutes for school students, scout troops, summer campers and other groups, Red Cross volunteers like the Augusta Youth Council (pictured above) help participants learn, practice and share preparedness information. Upon completion of the class, they receive a sturdy pillowcase and are encouraged to build a personal emergency supplies kit for use at home.
