To expand our impact, the Red Cross across Michigan is coming together with volunteers and community partners to reach thousands of Michigan residents and install hundreds of smoke alarms in a single day on April 29, in our first annual Mega Blitz and raise $1 Million to benefit the Home Fire Campaign.
What is the Home Fire Campaign?
Seven times a day, someone dies in a home fire. Every 40 minutes, an injury from a fire is reported. Nearly 1,000 times every day, fire departments are called to home fires. For the past 20 years, these numbers have been relatively stagnant. By mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the American Red Cross and our coalition partners will attack that stagnation. In an unprecedented, nationwide effort to combine new technology and innovation with old-fashioned neighbor-to-neighbor outreach, we will save lives, reduce injuries, and cut down on needless losses. Our goal is to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the United States by 25% within 5 years. Since launching the Home Fire Campaign, we have installed over 15,000 smoke alarms Statewide, and have documented 3 lives saved in Michigan, with 159 lives saved across the country. How it works
On Saturday, April 29, volunteer installation teams of 3-4 members each, will meet at a central location to receive their neighborhood assignments and blitz kits. They will go door to door installing smoke alarms and helping residents make their preparedness plans. Each visit will take about 20-30 minutes. Red Cross vehicles will travel through the neighborhoods to provide support to the teams.
For more than 130 years, the American Red Cross has been helping neighbors down the street, across the country and around the world. Founded by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross was formed to aid domestic and overseas relief efforts. Over the years, the organization has expanded its service but maintains the mission of preventing and relieving suffering. Today, victims of disaster, patients needing life-saving blood, members of the military and many more turn to the Red Cross every day. With chapters across the U.S., we have a presence in every community. With our global Red Cross partners, we comprise the largest humanitarian network in the world.
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

Corporate Team Sponsorship Opportunity
Ensure your team reaches its goal and receives sponsorship benefits in return. Simply commit to contribute the balance of your team’s goal should fundraising fall short, and you will receive sponsorship benefits equal to your total goal. That means if your team sets a goal of $10,000 and raises $7,500, your company contributes the remaining $2,500. The best part is your company will receive the benefits and recognition of a $10,000 sponsor.
It’s simple. We’ll provide the tools, guidance and support you need to help you reach your goals. For additional information, please visit www.redcross.org or contact Eva Alexander at EvaAlexander@redcross for further information.
