Scott Emerson - Southern Nevada Chapter CEO

Scott Emerson – Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

On April 1, 2010, Scott Emerson was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. Scott has served 23 years with the American Red Cross; the first twelve of which he served as a volunteer.

During his volunteer career with the organization, he served in several local, statewide and national Red Cross leadership positions including two terms as Chapter Chair of the Henry County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Clinton, MO.

He has served as an employee in local and national level positions.

  • Director of Emergency Services (Greater Ozarks Chapter in Springfield, MO): Supervised all aspects of service delivery for Disaster Services, International Services, and Services to the Armed Forces for a 15 county area of Southwest Missouri.
  • Senior Associate for Response (NHQ in Las Vegas, NV ): Provided technical guidance, response support, and professional development for individuals in chapters across 10 western states regarding Disaster Services, International Services, and Services to Armed Forces.
  • Director of Emergency Services (Southern Nevada Chapter in Las Vegas, NV): Supervised all aspects of service delivery for Disaster Services, International Services, and Services to the Armed Forces for a four county area including one of the most high profile metropolitan areas in the world; Las Vegas, NV.
  • Director of Service Delivery (Southern Nevada Chapter in Las Vegas, NV ): Previous role was expanded to include supervision of all lines of service to include Disaster Services, International Services, Services to the Armed Forces, and Health & Safety Services for the Southern Nevada Chapter.

During his 23 years with the organization he has served on numerous disaster relief operations including September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, Kosovo refugees during the Balkan crisis in 1999 and Hurricane Katrina. He is an advanced level disaster instructor trainer and frequently serves as a mentor for others in the organization. He is a Certified Emergency Manager through the International Association of Emergency Managers.

He has a rich history of collaborating and building coalitions to improve services to the community; most notably earning a partnership award from the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) for co-joined efforts between the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency and Missouri Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster.

Scott Emerson is the recipient of several awards including the Clara Barton Honor Award for Meritorious Volunteer Leadership (the highest volunteer leadership award in the American Red Cross) and Spirit of Excellence for Direct Service Beyond the Chapter. He is a recent graduate of the Non-Profit Management Certificate program; a partnership between the United Way of Southern Nevada and UNLV.

He is a former law enforcement officer graduating as valedictorian of his training academy class, attained the rank of Sergeant, and earned first runner up for Missouri Deputy Sheriff of the Year in 1995 at only 24 years old.
