The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross is pleased to announce its 2026 Nissan Heroes Luncheon, presented by Ascend Federal Credit Union and Ole South Properties raised over $160,000 to support the organization’s mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering. The luncheon took place on Thursday, March 12 at the Student Union Ballroom of Middle Tennessee State University and was attended by around 400 individuals to celebrate the Red Cross in our community.
The event was hosted by the chapter’s Board of Directors, with several different board members presenting on stage. Notably, Alan Brown shared his story about the lifesaving power of Red Cross training. During a recreational baseball game, Alan collapsed after experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. While an ambulance was on the way, two individuals performed CPR, saving his life. Recognizing the dire situation he would have encountered had those two individuals not been there, Alan encouraged all the event’s attendees to become trained in CPR so that they too can be ready to help in an emergency.
John Floyd, owner and founder of Ole South Properties, was recognized as the event’s 2026 Hero. Floyd’s consistent effort to support and strengthen local communities has made a lasting impact on Middle Tennessee. Through his leadership and philanthropic support across various community organizations, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to helping families thrive and uplifting those in need. Floyd’s philosophy around balancing business and philanthropy is simple, “Doing great deals is great, but giving to organizations that can change people’s lives matters most.”
Terry Smith, owner of Fastsigns Murfreesboro, was recognized during the event as the Volunteer Spotlight. In an on-stage interview with Nick Paranjape, Terry shared her journey of becoming involved with the Red Cross, helping lead the Heart of Tennessee Chapter as Board Chair through the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, and the variety of ways she’s been involved with the Red Cross.
The 2026 Heroes Luncheon highlighted the powerful impact compassion, preparedness, and community leadership across Middle Tennessee. As the Heart of Tennessee Chapter looks ahead, it remains committed to empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and ensuring that help is available when it matters most.
John Floyd, founder and owner of Ole South Properties, is a visionary leader whose impact on Middle Tennessee reaches far beyond the homes he builds. His success in business is matched by his unwavering commitment to community. He has also championed vocational education, helping revitalize building trades programs in local schools.
