Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. The American Red Cross provides nearly 40% of the nation's blood supply, ensuring patients receive lifesaving blood products when and where they are needed. Yet a shrinking donor base, rising demand and increasing complexity in matching blood products are placing unprecedented pressure on the blood system. As blood donations have declined and demand continues to grow, the need for investment has never been greater.
To meet this challenge, the Red Cross launched The LifeBlood Fund, a five-year, $300 million campaign to strengthen and modernize the nation's blood supply. Through strategic philanthropic investment, the campaign will advance innovation, inspire and engage the next generation of blood donors, improve access to the best-matched blood products, and build a more resilient blood system for the future. Reliable access to blood is not only a medical necessity — it is a humanitarian imperative. Together, we have an opportunity to ensure that every patient has access to lifesaving blood products when and where they are needed — for generations to come.
A shrinking donor base and rising demand are placing unprecedented pressure on the nation's blood supply. The nation is facing a growing imbalance between the need for blood and the number of people donating it. Despite all the advances in modern medicine, there is no substitute for blood.
The LifeBlood Fund will address these challenges through three strategic investment priorities designed to strengthen and modernize the nation's blood supply.
The Campaign Leadership Committee, led by Co-Chairs Teri and Byron Pollitt, is a distinguished group of philanthropic leaders committed to advancing the campaign's vision and impact.
