The Need

Every 4 days in Northern Nevada, a family loses their belongings to a home fire or wildfire. In that moment, when people are at their lowest points in their lives, they need to be able to count on the local American Red Cross for help. Timely, targeted Red Cross aid can be all that stands between our community’s most vulnerable families and hunger, homelessness, or health crisis after a disaster.

Our Response

24 hours a day / 7 days a week, volunteers are on call to help those left homeless by a house fire in our community. In that moment, when people are at one of the lowest points in their lives, the Red Cross provides emergency food, clothing, and shelter. Most often our volunteers are on the scene shortly after firefighters are rolling up their hoses and preparing to depart the scene. It is at this time that our volunteers spring into action, assessing needs and providing support.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is effective because it is timely and targeted.

There is no other local organization that delivers the same services, at the exact time and place they are needed most.

Our Goal

The “Fire Hurts, Red Cross Helps” campaign is an effort to increase public awareness about the disasters we respond to and how you can help your neighbor. Through your financial support, we can continue to make a difference following a disaster.
