Dancing pretzels, a band competition, DJs broadcasting from the roof and the opportunity to win concert tickets and other prizes will highlight the 8th Annual Roof-A-Thon which will be held August 7, 8 and 9 at the Wendy’s on Davis Street in Scranton.
Sponsored by Quality Served Fast, Inc., our local Wendy’s franchise and Cumulus Broadcasting, all proceeds of the Roof-A-Thon will benefit the Lackawanna County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The Dancing Pretzels will be on hand to celebrate Wendy’s newest addition to its menu, the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger. Steve Kepic, who operates several Wendy’s restaurants in Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties, has announced a special promotion for this year’s event. For each Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger sold at any Wendy’s location in Luzerne or Lackawanna County during all three days of the Roof-A-Thon, Wendy’s will donate $1 to the American Red Cross of Lackawanna County. “All of us at Wendy’s, including our employees and customers, are proud to do what we can to help our local Red Cross. It gives us the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the chapter, while, at the same time, celebrate all that Red Cross does for the community. I hope everyone can come on down to help us,” said Kepic.
Cumulus radio stations will include: Magic 93, 979X, 97BHT, 590 WARM and NASH FM 937. DJs from these stations will broadcast live at various times from the roof of Wendy’s for the three days of Roof-A-Thon. Cumulus will also host a silent auction featuring many unique items including guitars autographed by various musical artists.
Chris Grudzinski of Optimum Entertainment will be hosting contests and games including Name That Tune, trivia challenges and Family Feud during all three days of the Roof-A-Thon.
On Wednesday, August 7 at 6 p.m., a brass band from Lackawanna County’s Scranton High School will do battle with Luzerne County’s Wyoming Valley West High School brass band for the “Blow Your Brass Off” competition. The winner will be declared by audience applause. The winning school will receive a DJ entertainment package for their school from Optimum Entertainment. The winners will also receive a complimentary dinner from Wendy’s, concert tickets and a trophy for their school.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be on-site on August 8, from noon to 5 p.m. for a blood drive. Courtesy of Cumulus Broadcasting, the first 40 blood donors will receive a pair of free tickets for a concert, water park or amusement park. "Each year, the American Red Cross collects more than 6 million units of blood. These donations are distributed to approximately 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the county. Our goal is 20 pints. We ask that volunteer donors come to the blood drive to help us achieve this goal so we, in turn, can help provide life-saving blood to those in need," said Sherry N. Williams, Lackawanna County Chapter Executive Director. Donors must be at least 17 years of age and healthy. Each donor receives a brief examination during which temperature, pulse, blood pressure and hemoglobin are measured.
Volunteers for this 3-day event are still needed. Please call (570) 823-7161, ext. 329.
