Thursday evening, the American Red Cross, Serving Erie & Niagara Counties took time out to thank its supporters during the annual “In Celebration of Giving” reception. Hosted by Board member Todd Brason and his wife Kim, the evening provided the opportunity to recognize major donors and volunteers for their gifts of time, talent, and financial support throughout the year.
“It is only because of these gifts that the Red Cross is able to fulfill its mission of helping the Western New York community prevent, prepare for and respond to disaster,” said Executive Director Nancy Blaschak. “It is important that we take time out to recognize our donors and volunteers, and celebrate the work that we are able to do together to help our neighbors in need.”
During the “In Celebration of Giving” reception, the American Red Cross presented the following awards of distinction:
Ruth C. Roberts Award—Travers Collins & Co.
Named after a remarkable volunteer whose genuine and selfless concern for humanity continues to serve as a model for all who seek to serve others, the Ruth C. Roberts award recognizes an exceptional contribution to the success of the Red Cross. This year, the Red Cross is pleased to honor Travers Collins & Co., which has donated creative services since 2006 to help make The BASH Buffalo’s Best Annual Fundraiser. From the Red Cross olive to this year’s introduction of “The Colonel” to Western New York, Travers Collins changed the way The BASH is advertised, making it a “buzz-worthy” summer event that this year raised over $360,000 to support local Red Cross disaster services.
Clara Barton Award—Michael Osika
The Chapter’s highest honor, the Clara Barton Award is given to an outstanding volunteer whose efforts have made a positive and profound impact on American Red Cross Services. Currently serving as the Philanthropy Chair on the Board of Directors, Michael Osika is committed to engaging the Board in fundraising efforts and works closely with the development team to ensure the success of the annual Board Campaign. Each year, Osika and his husband, Dr. Dan Salcedo, host a Gift Gathering party to collect donations of items for The BASH auction. This year’s party brought in nearly $8,000 in donations that helped make the 2012 BASH auction the most successful yet, raising over $45,000.
BASH Chairman’s Award—John Yurtchuk
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, John Yurtchuk is a major reason 2012 was a record breaking year for The BASH, bringing in over $360,000 to support disaster services in Western New York. Yurtchuk recruited more than 25% of this year’s corporate sponsors, and provides his leadership and support to the Red Cross year round.
The American Red Cross, Serving Erie & Niagara Counties is not a government organization and relies on these gifts of time, talent, and financial support from “The City of Good Neighbors” to continue to provide life-saving services to the community. The Red Cross is proud to recognize its generous donors and volunteers and gather together in celebration of giving.
