The American Red Cross joined the Girl Scouts of Western Washington at GirlFest 2012 on Saturday, October 20. Hosted by the Girl Scouts, this annual event brings together music, games and education in a day-long celebration of being a girl. This year, our youth preparedness team had a booth about disaster preparedness and American Red Cross services.
All were invited to spin the wheel and answer trivia questions about different disasters such as snow storms, fires and earthquakes. Washington is home to the most types of disasters and the Girl Scouts knew all the right answers. They even demonstrated the proper Drop, Cover and Hold On earthquake maneuver.
The girls were also able to make home evacuation plans, fill out emergency contact cards and learn general information about the American Red Cross. Our youth preparedness team frequently conducts education outreach at schools and community events. Being Red Cross Ready starts at every age.
