American Red Cross Seeks Donations for Friendship Center


The American Red Cross is in need of food and cleaning supplies for the Emergency Homeless Shelter, Transitional Housing and Food Pantry programs it operates at The Friendship Center, 618 State St., Ithaca.

The American Red Cross is asking the public to drop off donations during regular business hours at either The Friendship Center or the Red Cross Tompkins County Chapter office at 2 Ascot Place, Ithaca.

Here’s the list of what’s needed:

Food Pantry supplies:

• Peanut butter and jelly

• Canned or dried beans

• Canned meats (deviled ham, potted meat, tuna, chicken)

• Pasta and sauce

• Rice (white, brown, flavored)

• Canned or dried soups (Ramen noodles)

• Canned meals (beef stew, SpaghettiOs, chili)

• Boxed dinners (Hamburger Helper, macaroni and cheese)

• Breakfast cereal and instant oatmeal

• Canned fruits and fruit juices

• Canned vegetables (green beans, peas, mixed vegetables, corn, diced tomatoes)

• Boxed potatoes and stuffing mix

• Crackers and snacks (fruit chews, cookies, pretzels)

• Baby formula and baby food

Shelter and Friendship Center maintenance supplies:

• Toilet paper, paper towels and facial tissue

• Disinfectant cleansers and sprays

• Hand sanitizer

• Laundry detergent and bleach

• Ziploc bags

• Liquid hand soap

• Dish detergent
