A benefit concert featuring 29 Utica area musical acts on Dec. 8 at Pier’s & Blake restaurant in Utica raised more than $5,000 for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for people displaced from their homes by Superstorm Sandy.
“To show New York and New Jersey residents how much Central New York cares about them, our local bands, DJs and businesses came together to raise a significant amount of money to help their recovery efforts,” said Rachael Hall, who organized the concert. “This is an amazing community.”
In addition to the music, the event included a Santa’s workshop and photo identification center for children; numerous raffle items donated by area businesses Auto Specialist, Babes, Broadway Theater League, Woods Valley, Teddy’s, F.X. Matt Brewery and Nicotera’s; and food provided by Tony’s on Burrstone Road and Whitesboro Street, Boccone’s Pizzeria, Rosario’s, and Daylight Donuts.
The event was organized by Hall and her husband, Eric, Joe Sweet, and Daniel Rabice. It was sponsored by Vernon Downs Casino & Hotel, Illustrated Tattoo Studios, and Goodfellas Alternative Smokeshop.
