Bradley University Students Proudly SERVE the American Red Cross

Instead of sleeping in, Kari Allen, a college student at Bradley University, started her Saturday morning with more than 200 student volunteers to help provide assistance to residents in the Peoria area, including those devastated by the recent flooding.

The volunteer team sent to the American Red Cross Central Illinois Chapter helped load water, coffee and food into the Emergency Response Vehicle to deliver to crews filling sandbags in Bartonville, Illinois.

“I love volunteering,” said Allen. “It is a really rewarding experience knowing you are helping someone in need and we are really happy to be here.”

Allen is the site leader for SERVE, a student led organization that coordinates volunteer opportunities for Bradley University students to build relationships within the community while providing service to meet the community’s needs.

Brandis Holloway, also a member of SERVE, says she was grateful to volunteer for the American Red Cross today.

“I am a nursing major, so I have a big heart,” said Holloway. “It’s good to help people out.”
