RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The West Coast Division of Circle K Stores Inc. announced today that it has raised $140,000 in support of the American Red Cross, through its first "King of Clubs" golf tournament on Aug. 4 at the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont, Calif.
"Circle K has become an amazing partner of the Red Cross, not only through this extraordinary tournament, but also through their in-store customer donation programs which they are promoting year-round," stated Stanley Perdue, regional chief executive officer for the American Red Cross. "Their support is making it possible for the Red Cross to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies."
The event was supported by a myriad of major vendors in the convenience store world, including MillerCoors, Anheuser-Busch, Inc., Purfetti van Melle, Coca-Cola, Gilbarco Veeder-Root, Advance Pierre Foods, Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon, and Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa.
After collecting more than $230,000 in the months following the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti, Circle K decided to focus their efforts to support the Red Cross mission in the communities where their employees live. Throughout 2011, more than 300 stores across three states will be collecting donations to support their local Red Cross.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds, and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
