The award winning trio and longtime American Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet member Rascal Flatts has been named the recipient of the Country Radio Seminar (CRS) 2012 Artist Humanitarian Award.
The CRS Humanitarian award honors those Country music artists who have exhibited exceptional humanitarian efforts during their career. The multi-platinum selling trio of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney are receiving the honor based on their charitable contributions and humanitarian endeavors throughout the band’s career.
Since 2004, Rascal Flatts has been an outstanding active member of the Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet, lending their time, voice and heart to help those in need. The band has supported Red Cross national campaigns and has taped public service announcements to encourage people to give blood, get prepared, and support disaster relief operations.
"It gives us great pleasure to be able to work with a wonderful organization like the American Red Cross because of the humanitarian service it provides to this country and around the world," said Gary LeVox, lead singer of Rascal Flatts.
In 2008, in a historical first for the organization, American Red Cross disaster relief services were prominently featured in the Rascal Flatts’ music video, “Every Day”as one of several vignettes portraying every day heroes responding to emergency situations. During that same year, band member Joe Don Rooney made a financial donation to the Red Cross following the devastating tornado that hit his hometown of Picher, Okla.
Rascal Flatts has also donated to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt’s Pediatric Surgery Center. In addition, they currently serve as celebrity spokespersons for The Jason Foundation, a national suicide prevention organization.
“The board is very pleased to honor Rascal Flatts with the CRS Artist Humanitarian Award,” said CRS Executive Director Bill Mayne. “They join a long, distinguished list of celebrities who have received this prestigious award since it was instated in 1990.”
