Last December, the Executive staff at Delta Dental of Tennessee received a link to a video in which a fire victim from New York talked about the importance of how simply having a toothbrush made her feel person again after her loss. It was then that their team became inspired to partner with the American Red Cross to make a donation of 10,000 toothbrushes that would support the disaster needs for the state of Tennessee for an entire year.
“We all know the important role that the Red Cross plays in major disasters like Superstorm Sandy or the recent Oklahoma tornadoes, but the Red Cross also plays a critical role to our fellow Tennesseans on a daily basis, responding to smaller storms, tornadoes, floods, and even house fires,” said Phil Wenk, D.D.S., President & CEO, of Delta Dental. “We at Delta Dental of Tennessee hope that these toothbrushes will help to restore that sense of normalcy to those whose lives have been turned upside down by disaster.”
Representatives from Delta Dental of Tennessee presented officials from the Nashville Area Chapter of the American Red Cross with the toothbrushes today that will go into Comfort kits, which contain personal hygiene items. Comfort Kits are part of the items that Red Cross disaster action team members take with them when responding to a disaster, such as a house fire, flood or storm. Each person affected by disaster receives a comfort kit.
“These toothbrushes will help many of our neighbors across the state of Tennessee as they recover from disaster,” said Joel Sullivan, Regional CEO for the Tennessee Volunteer Region of the American Red Cross. “Thanks to Delta Dental, we are now fully stocked and prepared to respond to those who need our help to recover from disasters.”
The toothbrush supply will be distributed throughout the state of Tennessee and includes children’s and adult size brushes.
