SAN DIEGO, June 26, 2013 — Get ready to dive into summer with the 9th Annual Lifeguard Games. The American Red Cross will be hosting the Lifeguard Games at the Poway Community Pool Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
This event is a great opportunity for families from the community to cheer on over 100 local lifeguards and watch life saving techniques in action. There will be a series of events that will include a submerged victim towing relay, shallow water back-boarding scenario, 50-yard breaststroke with rescue tube, 10- pound brick carry and active victim rescues.
The Red Cross encourages all San Diegans to come enjoy this fun competition, while at the same time learning and witnessing life saving techniques that will be helpful year round.
This event is free for spectators and is a great way to help engage children and parents in understanding the importance of water safety. General competition participation is open to trained lifeguards and lifeguard instructors. In addition, Guard Start participation is open to current or prior junior lifeguard program participants under the age of 15. The registration deadline is Monday, July 8, 2013.
The Red Cross is able to host this fun competition and awareness event with the help of volunteers, community partners and corporate sponsors including SDG&E, 100.7 Jack and 760 KFMB.
