Culver City-based Dogeared, which designs and handcrafts jewelry, makes good things happen with their team and customers every day.
Nearly 20 of the company’s 100 employees, including Dogeared Co-Founder and Head of Happenings, Merlin Clarke, demonstrated the company’s commitment by participating in the Red Cross L.A. Region’s Home Fire Prevention Campaign on Sat., Feb. 20, 2016. The Dogeared team, along with other Red Cross volunteers, installed more than 215 free smoke alarms in 117 South L.A. homes - an action that will directly save lives and reduce the number of injuries due to home fires.
“This experience was so enlightening for the team and me,” said Clarke, who worked as a smoke alarm installer that day. Other team members worked with families to create fire escape plans and review fire safety tips with the families. Clarke added, “It is so rewarding to know that these homes are now safe and that we have helped make a difference for families in our community.”
Participating in the Home Fire Prevention Campaign is just one of the ways that Dogeared has supported and promoted the mission of the Red Cross. The company has provided the team with CPR, First Aid, AED and blood pathogens training, participated in disaster preparedness education training, and donated to specific Disaster Relief campaigns and other fundraising efforts. Last August, Dogeared sponsored its first blood drive where 34 units were donated. The company is planning to sponsor another blood drive this June. “We really believe that it is important to support communities where we live and work,” said Clarke. “Our employees have huge hearts and a real sense of pride to give back. The Red Cross, which has an incredible reputation, allows everyone to get involved.”
