Over the past year, Colorado has faced many devastating disasters. During the 2013 Colorado Wildfires, the American Red Cross opened and operated a total of 11 shelters and provided more than 6,300 overnight stays to state residents.
A few months later, three days of heavy rain resulted in widespread flooding affecting over 20,000 square miles and evacuating over 24,000 households. Once again, the American Red Cross mobilized to provide food, a safe place to sleep, emotional comfort, relief items including toiletries and cleanup kits, and referrals for long-term assistance.
We continue to remain active helping to plan and support long-term recovery for the affected communities.
Meanwhile, even as the American Red Cross responded to these large-scale disasters, our local volunteers continued to respond to everyday disasters that occurred in the community, including home and apartment fires.
Please consider a gift to the American Red Cross on Colorado Gives Day and support our efforts today and everyday as we prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of disasters.
