Ethel and Rory Kennedy were honored Tuesday by the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts.
The “Women Who Care Humanitarian Award” was given to Rory and Ethel Kennedy at the annual Women Who Care breakfast hosted by the Red Cross. The Kennedys share the Red Cross’ continued commitment of public service to make the world a better place and build a fair and just society.
Rory Kennedy, speaking for both women, noted that the “Red Cross is a ripple, my mother is a ripple, and together we’ll make a giant wave.”
The Kennedys were presented the award by Jarrett Barrios, CEO of the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts, and last year’s honoree, Justice Margaret H. Marshall, who had met Ethel Kennedy’s late husband in her native South Africa.
Mistresses of ceremonies Liz Brunner and Candy O’Terry kept the program moving until show-stopper Nola Hood, winner of the Stars Over Boston competition, wowed the crowd with a moving rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.”
