Fire displaces truckers in Wilmington

Fire displaces truckers in Wilmington

American Red Cross volunteers responded to an unusual call early Wednesday morning: a fire had claimed two tractor trailer trucks and their drivers were left homeless in Wilmington.

It wasn’t the standard house fire our disaster volunteers are accustomed to responding to, but they were happy to help all the same.

Volunteers provided three truckers with emergency temporary shelter – a hotel stay, funds for food, clothing, and comfort kits – which include items like tooth brushes and wash cloths. The drivers were also given funds for seasonal garments – as they ran out of their burning trucks in only their pajamas.

Thank you to the donors who provided these relief items, and to the volunteers who responded to the early morning call.
