Barbara Peterson, a native of Newark, New Jersey, was a manager for eight years with the American Red Cross in Morristown. She also contributed an additional nine years of her life to the Red Cross mission as a volunteer.

Now in her 80’s, Barbara lives at Asbury Tower senior housing in Monmouth County. When informed she’d need to evacuate her home, the first words out of her mouth where, “Are you taking me to a Red Cross shelter?”

Barbara put her trust in the organization she contributed to for so long and the Red Cross delivered on that trust, giving her safe shelter, warm meals and community over the more than two weeks since Superstorm Sandy hit New Jersey.
