Frontier Communications donates disaster trailer to Red Cross

The Finger Lakes NY Region of the American Red Cross will be holding a reception at Hampton Corners on August 7th to reveal the newest addition to its disaster services fleet.

Thanks to a generous donation from Frontier Communications, Livingston County will have increased capacity to respond to disasters throughout the region. The disaster trailer, which is a repurposed and rebranded Frontier vehicle, will be used to carry supplies to a shelter in case of an emergency.

Supplies could include cots, blankets, first aid kits, and other necessities.

“This donation demonstrates how important disaster response is in our area,” said Richard King, Interim Director of Disaster and Emergency Services for the Finger Lakes NY Region of the American Red Cross. “A trailer provides us with greater versatility, the ability to be better prepared ahead of a disaster, and broader reach throughout the region in case of an emergency. We are grateful to Frontier for their generosity.”

Although shelter openings in New York State are less frequent than in other areas of the country that experience hurricanes and tornadoes regularly, there have been several incidents in recent years that required shelters. Large scale fires, tornadoes and severe weather, ice storms, and flooding can all contribute to a need for large-scale emergency housing.

“Frontier is proud to provide this support to the outstanding efforts of the American Red Cross,” said Robert Smith, General Manager, Frontier Communications West. “We value our commitment to our local communities and feel this trailer will serve as a valuable asset to the communities in Livingston County for disaster relief.”

The trailer unveiling will take place on Tuesday, August 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Livingston County Emergency Management Services Headquarters at Hampton Corners in the town of Groveland, which can be reached from the north by traveling I-390 south to Exit 7. The EMS building is at the corner of routes 63 and 408.

Media are invited to attend the unveiling for exclusive photos of the new trailer and interviews with both Red Cross and Frontier personnel. There will be a brief program followed by refreshments. Please RSVP to Erin D. Caldwell at 585-241-4419.
