Heroes and Angels Blood Drive

Colege boy donating blood at the Red Cross

The American Red Cross, Firefighters Cancer Foundation of New York, Syracuse Fire Fighters Association- Local 280 IAFF and Fuccillo Hyundai of Syracuse are hosting a special blood drive to honor heroes and angels: firefighters who are battling cancer, and those who we have lost to the disease. The blood drive will be held on Monday, June 20, from noon-6:30 p.m. at Fuccillo Hyundai of Syracuse, 2601 Erie Blvd. East. The WOLF 105.1 will broadcast live during a portion of the blood drive.

“The Heroes and Angels Blood Drive honors cancer patients because they are our heroes,” said Firefighters Cancer Foundation of New York President Mike Valenti. “The Firefighters Cancer Foundation of New York is proud to partner with the American Red Cross, because we know how important blood donations are for cancer patients, as well as burn and trauma victims.”

The goal of the blood drive is to get 112 units of donated blood. If the goal is achieved, Fuccillo Hyundai of Syracuse will donate $5000 to the Red Cross which will support the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign. As a special thank you, all presenting donors will receive a free Red Cross Emergency Car Kit and may register for a Red Cross free home smoke detector installation. Donors will also be treated to a barbeque hosted by Fuccillo Hyundai of Syracuse.

“When great organizations team up on blood drives, the results are amazing, “ said American Red Cross of Western and Central New York CEO Rosie Taravella. “Our community knows that this effort is coming straight from the hearts of these incredible partners, and we are grateful for their concern for others.”

Blood and platelet donations often decline during the summer months when busy schedules and vacation plans can cause some donors to be less available to give. During the months of June, July and August, on average, about two fewer donors schedule an appointment to give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what patients need. This can add up to nearly 100,000 fewer donations during the summer. This seasonal challenge can be overcome if at least two more people above what’s expected come out to give blood at each drive this summer.

Second Annual Heroes & Angels Blood Drive in honor of heroes and angels we have lost and in support of patients in need Monday, June 20 Noon-6:30 p.m. Fuccillo Hyundai of Syracuse 2601 Erie Blvd. East Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged.
