Team members at Tulsa-based Hilti recently spearheaded two projects to bring much-needed relief in the aftermath of devastating loss. Although based here, Hilti also has team members living and working on the east coast who have been directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Besides sending tools for residents to use in their clean-up efforts, the Hilti team also purchased comfort kits for the Red Cross to distribute to people in need along the east coast.

Chris Jones, a local Hilti team member, has a personal interest in the Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. “My sister-in-law and her family were displaced from their home on Long Island because of the storm,” says Chris. “They are all safe, but the devastation in their community is unprecedented and will take time to rebuild. I feel fortunate to work for a company that not only supports the Tulsa area, but also other communities in their time of need.”

The devastation on the east coast serves as a reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness. To that end, Hilti team members assembled and additional 1,000 comfort kits for use by the Eastern Oklahoma Red Cross throughout the 31 counties served by the regional chapter. The comfort kits will be given to families who lose their homes or are forced to evacuate due to disaster such as a fire, ice storm, flood or tornado.

“The Red Cross in Oklahoma is fortunate to have the support of individuals and companies who join us to help our communities in times of disaster,” says Regina Moon, Eastern Oklahoma Red Cross CEO. “We are grateful to Hilti team members for this gift to the Red Cross and for their continued support of people in need.”
