Iowa Red Cross Ready if Needed

Iowa
With all the events going on in the country we are also preparing in Iowa, in central Iowa, eastern Iowa, and along the Mississippi River for flooding that we anticipate to happen.

DES MOINES -- The America Red Cross is often one of the first on the scene to help with the after-effects of a disaster. They have already deployed to Boston, providing book donations and aid and now have mobilized volunteers to Texas to set up shelters and cook meals.

Iowans have not yet been called to duty in these locations, but they are ready.

"We are prepared to send people to either Boston or Texas if necessary," said Dan Cataldi, of the Central Iowa Chapter of the American Red Cross. "With all the events going on in the country we are also preparing in Iowa, in central Iowa, eastern Iowa, and along the Mississippi River for flooding that we anticipate to happen."

Being prepared is what the Red Cross is about and one way they do that is by constantly training people. The Red Cross of Central Iowa is currently looking for volunteers to come and get trained in disaster response.

Another way you can help with the disasters in Boston, Texas and even with the flooding we are seeing in parts of Iowa is to donate money. You can text RED CROSS to 90999 and that will donate $10 to their fund.
