Film and television actor Josh Duhamel once again teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a Youth Run fundraiser on the beach. The two-mile run was held in the sand at the Santa Monica Beach on Sunday morning, December 2, 2012 between rain showers.

Hundreds of runners and joggers of all ages assembled at a Santa Monica Beach parking lot and ran together to the world famous Santa Monica Pier and back. Duhamel led the run which started at 11 AM. Participants made a $10 donation to the American Red Cross PrepareSoCal disaster preparedness campaign.

Approximately $45,000 was raised at this year’s event, which is targeted to help prepare Southern Californians with tools to learn how to prevent, prepare for and respond to life threatening disasters, such as a major earthquake.

"There is great joy in running and knowing that you're also helping the American Red Cross prepare Southern California for disaster," said Duhamel, who is a member of the American Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet.

More than a 100 Red Cross volunteers, primarily Red Cross youth members, helped out at the event by registering runners, monitoring the run, and working with sponsors, including local radio station KROQ, in providing water, snacks and entertainment prior to and after the event.

This was the third consecutive youth run led by Duhamel. In January, 2010 and March, 2011, Duhamel led fundraising youth runs to assist with relief efforts after the Japanese and Haitian earthquakes.

The 2012 sponsors include: The Ford Motor Company Fund (presenting sponsor of the event), Coca Cola, Glacéau Vitamin Water, Don-A-Matrix Training, Glacéau Smart Water and Honest Tea.
