For more than two decades, Kaiser Permanente has partnered with the American Red Cross to provide support during times of disaster. Kaiser and its employees have supported our work in some of the largest disasters to date, including the Red Cross responses to Sept. 11, 2001, the 2004 Tsunami/Earthquake in Southeast Asia, and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Kaiser was a Presenting Sponsor for the 2013 Red Cross Bay Area Gala this past spring, and underwrote the cost of co-branded disaster kits, including an emergency blanket, food bars, and a first aid kit for each Gala attendee. Bernard Tyson, Chief Executive Officer for Kaiser Permanente, attended and spoke during the event, introducing the honoree, Lloyd Dean, Chief Executive Officer of Dignity Health.
This fall Kaiser is the Presenting Sponsor for five Bay Area Heroes Breakfast events. In addition to donating $5,000 per Breakfast, they also sent employees to support the actions of local heroes and to build further rapport with our Red Cross community. A Kaiser Permanente representative spoke at each event, highlighting the importance of our partnership in honoring those who make our communities a healthier and safer place. They also sponsored the Silicon Valley Community Heroes Breakfast at the end of October.
Kaiser has been a Presenting Sponsor for our Save-a-Life Saturdays (formerly known as CPR Saturday) series of training events for five years, allowing us to provide lifesaving skills free-of-cost to vulnerable and at-risk communities.
Kaiser takes an active role in engaging employees to support the work of the Red Cross, through their annual employee giving campaign.
